I’ve always known that my career choice wouldn’t make me independently wealthy, but it would give me an opportunity to support my family and still bring joy to others.
Not a bad combination. It has led me to my long held belief that “if you do what you love, the money will follow.”
Being in this business has also allowed me to encounter some of the most extraordinary young people I have ever met, including children who hold life in the balance, and who continue to inspire everyone around them to try a little harder and be a little better.
I meet these children regularly when I face paint at Children’s Hospital.
And then sometimes I’m invited to their parties.
A couple of months ago I received a request for entertainment for a birthday party for a little girl on hospice. Her name is Evylah, and in November, 2014, she was diagnosed with DIPG, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. It is considered the worst form of brain cancer, because it is inoperable, and because the median survival rate from diagnosis is 9 months.
I know firsthand that Cancer (or any childhood trauma) is a challenge for any family, so we felt very blessed to provide healing and laughter for the entire family. Evylah was so sweet and so funny herself, that between the two of us, I don’t know who had more fun! My boys were very moved by the experience as well. My youngest battled Cancer for 3 1/2 years, and he feels a special connection to any other child on that journey.
This is what Evylah’s Aunt shared with us after the party:
“My Niece Laughed and Giggled from Beginning to end! Memories made that day will never be forgotten and will help us all get through the hard days !!!”
If you’re a “regular” here (at my website or blog), then you have probably noticed something new.
For the next two weeks, we will be hosting a contest in order to give another deserving child the party entertainment of their dreams.
Our contest is two-fold…. here’s how it works:[ez_two]
We’re having a drawing for a $100 VISA Gift Card, and you can enter once per day. (You don’t have to live in Minnesota to enter or win). For each entry, we are donating $1 toward the dream party entertainment package for one deserving child. The more you enter, the bigger and better the party![/ez_two] [ez_two_last]
2. Then one time in the next two weeks, please think of a child you know (in the Twin Cities) whose family would benefit from a magical party with all their friends and message us on Facebook. You only need to enter that child’s name once, along with a description about why you’ve made the nomination, and we will choose from the entries, based on the information you give us. (The child does not need to be sick to qualify, nor does the party need to celebrate a birthday. All circumstances will be considered.)[/ez_two_last]
Thank you in advance for spreading the word, and for helping me bring joy and laughter to another precious child. #winatouchofmagic #giveatouchofmagic
